Cam got a moose! We are so thankful to have meat put away for the winter. He has been out looking since September 1 (when hunting season opens). He was fortunate to be able to get cow tag so that if he didn't get a bull he would have the opportunity to get continue hunting after the 14th. The weather has been beautiful the past couple of weeks...with the sun shining and blue skies. Cam and our friend Larry took off last Saturday for a 4 wheeler trip while I worked, G went to the baby sitter and Amy (Larry's wife) was working. They told us the direction they were going and off they went. I stopped by and talked to Amy around 6ish and the guys weren't back...nothing to worry about yet. At 10PM Amy was still working but called to see if I had heard from them (I hadn't). G was alseep and I didn't want to leave. I wasn't worried yet since it was just starting to get dark. She called again at 11 and now I was starting to get worried. She was going to work for a little bit longer and she said she was going to go and look for them. Well we both got a call once they were back in cell phone range around 11:30ish with wonderful news!
The prize...
Finally Home...
the guys had to hang the meat in the dark but here it is the next day...
Sunday afternoon we started cutting...and we did some more cutting...
I should have taken a picture of it all packaged and ready for the freezer. We had 2 rubbermaid totes of roasts, 1 rubbermaid tote of ground meat and 1 tote ready to ship off. We have already had a few meals with the moose and they were sure yummy and Graciana likes it too (she didn't think much of the liver though). Thank you Larry and Amy for letting us invade your shop for a couple of days and showing us (more me) how to cut up a moose!
